Resources for Children with Diabesity

Childhood obesity is rising epidemic. If current trends continue, we could be raising the first generation of Americans to have shorter life spans than their parents. We are now seeing eight-year-old children with type 2 (previously called “adult-onset” diabetes), fifteen-year-olds with strokes, and twenty-five-year-olds who need cardiac bypass. This is all the more tragic because it is COMPLETELY reversible.

Luckily, there are some wonderful organizations, books, and people out here who are taking this epidemic head on.

If you are a parent of a child who has diabesity, I’d like to share a few of my favorite resources with you:

  • Healthy Recipes: The same chef who helped developed the recipes in The Blood Sugar Solution has created these kid friendly meals. I hope your whole family can enjoy them.
  • Ending the Food Fight–My friend and respected colleague David Ludwig has developed an entire program for helping to fight this epidemic. This book is a MUST read for families struggling with diabesity.
  • The Clinton Foundation’s Fight Against Childhood Obesity
